Drum Lessons in Cincinnati

For beginner to advanced students, ages 6 and up. Private instruction at five Greater Cincinnati locations.

Private Lessons. Full Acoustic Kits.

Drums attract students who want to play — not practice. Our teachers understand that, and lessons are built accordingly. Students start making music quickly, while teachers quietly build in the technique that helps them play safely, confidently, and with control.

With drum teachers across five locations, families have more ways to find the right schedule and location. Every lesson is private. Every studio has a full acoustic kit — not a practice pad. Students develop real touch and feel from lesson one, on an instrument that responds the way drums are supposed to.

Where Are You Starting From?

01
Beginner
No experience needed. Basic rudiments, counting, coordination between hands and feet. Students start playing actual beats quickly — the goal is music first, not just technique drills.
02
Intermediate
Building on the fundamentals. More complex rhythms, fills, dynamics, groove development across styles. Students move from playing beats to understanding how a drummer serves a song.
03
Advanced
Technical refinement, odd meters, advanced rudiments, improvisation, performance preparation. Students working toward serious performance or auditions get faculty who can take them there.
04
Adult Beginners
Adults who have always wanted to sit behind a kit. Rock beats, jazz brushwork, whatever you want to learn. Lessons move at your pace, without pressure to hit artificial milestones.
05
Young Students (Ages 6–9)
Short, focused lessons. Coordination and rhythm fundamentals come first. The right teacher at this age keeps it engaging and builds habits that hold up as the student grows.
06
Styles We Teach
Rock, jazz, funk, pop, gospel, Latin, country. Students bring the music they want to learn. A drummer who plays one style well is limiting — our faculty teaches across all of them.

"My son has been going there for about 2 years now and he loves his drum lessons! The staff is friendly and his teacher is very attentive to my son's abilities and needs. My son has performed at two recitals and has done an amazing job!"

— Ciro C. · Google Review

The drummer showcase has become one of the loudest, proudest, most memorable CSM recital moments of the year. Students perform in a room full of other drummers and families — and they rise to it every time. Students have recital opportunities throughout the year across instruments and locations.

Taught on Real Instruments

01
Full acoustic kits in every studio
Every drum studio at Cincinnati School of Music is equipped with a full acoustic kit. Touch and dynamics on a real kit develop skills that practice pads and digital kits cannot replicate. Students learn the instrument, not a simulation of it.
02
Teachers who perform
Our drum teachers are working musicians. That experience shapes how they hear timing, feel, and groove — and how they diagnose what a student needs to fix. The difference between a performing teacher and a non-performing one is audible in lessons.
03
A Place to Play for Real
The drummer showcase is one of the loudest, proudest, most memorable recital moments at CSM. Students get to play for a real room of family and friends — and that matters. Month-to-month billing, no contracts, no semester minimums.

Simple Structure. Clear Expectations.

All drum lessons are private, one-on-one sessions. Lesson length is chosen based on the student's age, attention, and goals. Younger beginners typically start at 30 minutes. Students building toward performance benefit from longer sessions.

Lessons run seven days a week across our five locations. Siblings taking other instruments can schedule back-to-back at the same location — one trip, multiple kids, a simpler week.
